Gareth Turner has recently completed his IOSH course through our Wales Union Learning Fund (WULF) project and has now progressed onto registering on a NEBOSH course thanks to WULF.

There are lots of employer benefits to be gained from staff attending this course which include greater productivity with fewer hours lost to sickness and accidents. It can also improve organisation-wide safety awareness culture and appreciation of safety measures

Some of the delegate benefits include ensuring that they can understand their own responsibilities for safety and health and enabling them to investigate incidents. It can also ensure that they can assess and control risks and hazards.  This empowers them to measure their own performance and allows for personal reflections on good practice.

This is what Gareth had to say about his learning experience:

“The course I did was IOSH Managing Safely. I found out about the course through a work colleague and I picked the course due to wanting to gain qualifications in Health and Safety”. He went onto to say “I would definitely recommend the course as you can learn at your own pace and in your own time. I would recommend this course to others as it is really worth learning”.

The NEBOSH National General Certificate (NGC) that Gareth has progressed onto is intended for managers, supervisors and staff from all types of organisations who need a broader understanding of health and safety issues. The NGC is also suitable as a first step on a career in health and safety. It provides a valuable overview and is a sound basis for further professional study.

We look forward to seeing and hearing how Gareth enjoys his new course. If anyone else would like to know how our Wales project can support them, please contact us through www.urtuulr.com
