The dangers of labelling!

What is labelling?

Labeling can pack a powerful punch. We are taught, and force fed to use labels from an early age. We are encouraged to call ourselves and others different labels. Many of us become accomplished at labeling, especially about bad qualities and problems, from medical illnesses, addictions to how we look or act. People can easily get lost in their labels, and eventually we all absorb them.

However positive labelling can be motivating, enabling and encouraging people to take action and make a real change to their life. You can use a positive label for someone that is really ‘empathic’ which means they treat all people the same, according to notions of fairness and justice; not letting personal feelings bias decisions about others; giving everyone a fair chance.
